In-Home Vision Rehabilitation & Case Management The Visually Impaired Elders Program offers short-term instruction in daily living techniques for elders (60+) who are not legally blind.
Case Managers provide in-home safety assessments and introduce adaptive equipment, information, and training to help elders in their homes.
Low Vision Clinics In MAB’s Western Mass. and Central Mass. offices, Low Vision Clinics provide low vision assessments in a clinical setting with adaptive techniques and training taught by an Occupational Therapist. The Clinics are operated in partnership with the New England Eye Institute.
A Magnifier Clinic in the Central Mass. office offers personalized instruction about magnifiers and lighting (by appointment). Demonstrations of Adaptive Products (magnifiers, sunglasses, clocks, and other low vision aids) are conducted by appointment in our offices.
Groups provide the opportunity for participants to share fears, frustrations, coping mechanisms, and resources as their vision changes. Groups are offered in communities across Massachusetts; many groups are led by visually impaired peer coordinators. Volunteer Services
Trained One-to-One Volunteers are matched with consumers who are blind or visually
impaired to assist them when shopping or with reading and clerical tasks. Volunteers in our Central Mass. and Western Mass. offices offer Escorted Medical Transportation to consumers who are unable to use public van services because they need a sighted guide escort to travel safely. Leisure Time Activities (also in Central and Western Mass.) help consumers remain active participants in their community. We offer 1-2 activities monthly, such as theatre, museums, walks, luncheons, crafts, etc. In Central Mass., a candlepin bowling league runs from September until May.
