Support Groups
MAB's Support Groups provide practical and emotional support to individuals coping with serious sight loss. Support groups provide the opportunity for participants to share fears, frustrations, coping mechanisms, and resources as their vision changes. Groups are located in communities throughout Massachusetts; many are led by visually impaired peer coordinators.
Support Groups:
- Provide an opportunity for newly blind and visually impaired persons to come together to discuss issues relating to their vision loss. Individuals in each group have a variety of eye diseases and conditions.
- Focus on topics such as specialized equipment to use in the home or on the job, how to maintain independence, aging and vision loss, or the effects of vision loss on family and friends.
- Meet monthly in various community locations. Some groups meet during the day, others meet in the evening. Transportation is provided when possible.
MAB's peer-led Support Groups are funded through a contract with the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind.

"There is so much paperwork in this world and so many deadlines to meet…financial aid forms, tax returns, health insurance. I’m a single parent and a working professional. My volunteer enables me to live as any other adult lives, without compromising my privacy, without revealing to friends and family the content of my bank account or how much is in my paycheck."
