Orientation & Mobility

MAB provides Orientation and Mobility and Low Vision Services for adults with developmental disabilities and vision loss in the DMR/DDS Metro Region. Individuals with total blindness, legal blindness, low vision or a question of vision loss are eligible for services. Direct and consultative services are provided on-site at residential, day, and work programs, and involve detailed assessments and program planning in Orientation and Mobility, Low Vision, Environment, and other areas related to safety and quality of life.

The O&M Department also provides education and advocacy through a regular clinical training series that helps caregivers understand vision loss and promote enhanced independence for individuals.

Metro Region clinical referrals should be sent by an individual’s DMR/DDS Service Coordinator to Susan Lerner at the Department of Developmental Services (formerly DMR).

How Does Orientation and Mobility Help Individuals, Families and Caregivers? (PDF)

"I graduated in 2007. I really enjoyed the team sports, particularly basketball. Since graduating I have recently started working on a cruise line called the Odyssey. I am working on getting to my dream job at the aquarium. I have watched the Celtics win the finals against the Lakers, and I plan on watching the Red Sox beat the Yankees again!"
