Residences

After each school day students return to their residences for chores, homework, dinner, and group activities. All of our residences are staffed by trained residential counselors and case managers.

The main Ivy Street residence is on the third floor of our building at 200 Ivy Street in Brookline. Each student has his or her own room, which they may decorate. The Cottage Farm program and Browne Street are apartments in the neighborhood near the school. They are staffed 24 hours per day, but are structured to give students the opportunity to learn to live with roommates in an apartment-style environment. The educational focus of the residences is on increasing each student’s maturity, decision-making capacity, and life skills. But they are also a place for fun, food, movies, music and relaxation.

"I became a student at the Ivy Street School after I had a traumatic brain injury in a car accident when I was seventeen. At the school I learned how to cope with the results of my injury and be an independent young woman. There are a lot of people who helped me get to this point, and helped me get a job where I can make a difference in other people’s lives. Going out to work every day and feeling like you’re needed is something that most people take for granted. But for me, it’s something I think about every day."
