Ivy Street School Awards Ceremony 2009

The Ivy Street School held its annual Awards Ceremony June 25, to honor graduating, transitioning, and current students. The ceremony was held out in Mason Square on Ivy Street, followed by a celebratory picnic dinner for all students, staff, and families.

Ivy Street School Program Director Ron Allen led the program, which began with a motivating speech to students and thank you to Friends of Ivy Street partners by MAB CEO Barbara Salisbury. Students presented the community employer awards to:

  • Debra Nickerson - Les Petits Nursery School
  • Jean Doherty - Brookline Senior Center
Community partner awards went to:

  • Jay Gordon - Bodega
  • Sally Naish - Light and Shade Garden Design
  • Stephen Cocuzzo and Maria Evangelinellis - Leonard Stephen Salon

Ron then honored the matriculating graduates and presented individual student awards to each student for their personal successes in the past school year. Greg Whipple, Motor Development Coordinator & Ivy Street Hawks Coach recognized the student athletes that participated on the Ivy Street Hawks Special Olympics Team this year, thanking families who offered support for the team. Congratulations to all the students, staff, and families for their hard work in 2009!

"You are helping those who are less fortunate. You’re bringing joy to hearts that could be filled with sorrow. You are fulfilling the various dreams of those who felt it was impossible to have dreams and believe. I know that from just my experience and my lifetime. Just having people that cared a little bit, that said to me even though you are blind you are blessed to be given that challenge to do far better than you could even imagine."

- Stevie Wonder
