A volunteer helps in one of MAB’s offices

Our Volunteers

Our volunteers are some of our most important partners, providing an invaluable support system for blind or visually impaired individuals. They can help as little or as much as needed, and their tasks and roles are determined on a match-by-match basis. MAB recruits volunteers in many communities in Massachusetts (some geographical restrictions do apply). They come from many backgrounds; they may be college students, retirees, homemakers, workers, and everything in between. Volunteers are available for assistance in the workplace; for leisure and social activities; for transportation; and for tasks at home that require sight. Please note that we do not recruit volunteers for routine housework or yard work.

We have many volunteers who have been part of our program for two, four, even ten or more years. They find that in addition to the pleasure of giving back, their volunteer work gives them the opportunity to build lasting friendships. Volunteers are a reliable, confidential source of support. If you believe that a volunteer would enrich your life, please call one of our regional offices.

"There is so much paperwork in this world and so many deadlines to meet…financial aid forms, tax returns, health insurance. I’m a single parent and a working professional. My volunteer enables me to live as any other adult lives, without compromising my privacy, without revealing to friends and family the content of my bank account or how much is in my paycheck."
