Volunteer
Make a difference in someone’s life by lending your sight for just a few hours each week or month. MAB will provide training on how to assist someone who is blind, and will match you with an individual in or near your community. Each volunteer has a unique role depending on the needs of the blind individual, but volunteers often assist with grocery shopping, errands, clerical tasks, and reading print material. You might help a neighbor go through the weekly pile of mail, choose products together at the grocery store, or pick out greeting cards together at the pharmacy. Volunteers let us know which tasks they wish to help with.
Volunteers must be at least 18 or accompanied by a parent or guardian. Potential volunteers are interviewed, undergo a criminal record check (CORI) and attend an orientation. Time commitment ranges from two hours per week to two hours every other week, with a minimum commitment of six months. From time to time we also need volunteers for our events or to help in our offices. To speak to one of our volunteer coordinators please fill out the form below or contact our regional offices.

"Up until the early 90s my wife took care of our mail, paid the bills, and read my mail to me, but that became a trial and it wasn’t helpful to our relationship, so I took over the checkbook. I started paying the bills, and I got a volunteer from MAB to help me do it all."
