Our Volunteer Program, founded in 1959, matches sighted volunteers with visually impaired individuals who need assistance with reading, clerical work, grocery shopping and other tasks. In some areas of the state we provide escorted transportation to medical appointments. The program is extremely cost-effective, but trained staff are needed to ensure that each volunteer is carefully interviewed, screened, and trained before being placed in a blind person’s home. In honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the program, MABVI launched the David and Sydney Feldman Endowed Fund for Volunteer Services in honor of philanthropists and longtime MABVI volunteers David and Sydney Feldman. The fund seeks to create a permanent source of revenue to support volunteer services for the next fifty years and beyond.
