Making A Difference for More than a Century
MAB has been serving individuals with disabilities since 1903 and has expertise in case management, vision loss, rehabilitation, and working with individuals with multiple disabilities or the effects of aging. Our programs include:
Brain Injury Services
The Ivy Street School is a private residential and day school serving boys and girls (ages 13-22) adjusting to the challenges of a brain injury. We embrace a philosophy of complete family involvement in our school and offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of families confronting the issues that follow an injury to a child. MAB also offers limited residential services for young adults (age 22 and above) with brain injuries.
Developmental Disability Community Services
MAB offers residential supports, individual supports, and vocational rehabilitation to adults with developmental disabilities in small group settings in Greater Boston communities.
MABWorks
MABWorks is MAB's Vocational Training Program. We offer bulk mailing and shredding services to businesses, while training and employing individuals with developmental disabilities. Through the Ivy Jobs Program, Ivy Street School students are placed in on-site and community-based work and volunteer opportunities.
Vision Community Services
More than 150,000 Massachusetts residents live with a visual impairment. Since its founding as the Massachusetts Association for the Blind, MAB has identified gaps in services to individuals who are blind or visually impaired and filled them through innovative partnerships and initiatives. MAB’s Visually Impaired Elders Program provides case management, low vision exams, and in-home vision rehabilitation to elders at risk due to sight loss. Support groups, leisure activities, volunteer matches, braille transcriptions and the MAB Recording Studio help individuals who are blind or visually impaired gain valuable peer support, manage daily tasks, and access printed materials.
The Orientation and Mobility Department provides Orientation and Mobility and Low Vision Services to adults with developmental disabilities and vision loss in the DMR Metro Region.
